Spam on Blogs

The rate of innovation in IT industry is amazing. I just restarted on posting blogs. And sure enough there were comments!! But all of the comments were redirection to some other sites. These were spams comments. They would one to some antivirus site or sex site.

My site is not indexed till this time. So, it got me wondering how are these guys doing it. Do they have somebody just sitting there and putting in these comments for bombing site indexing. Or do they have some program which will select any random new post and put in the rogue comment.

I searched for the solution to this. If Google & Yahoo are doing anything on this side. Unfortunately, I could not find anything. Possible solution could be:

  1. Blacklisting rogue commentors!! (Negative side is that "distributed denial of commenting" attacks are possible)
  2. DNC ("Do Not Comment") registry for rogue commentors. (Negative side is that "distributed denial of commenting" attacks are possible)
  3. Automated spam comment detectors algorithms. These algorithms would need to identify that the comment had no relation whatsoever to the post and it is redirecting.

I am sure, there are other solutions to the above problem.

My site got indexed!!!

I had lost my last website. That site was hosted on the university site and I had been sometime since when I had graduated from there. To be frank I was surprised that my site was up for so long.

But anyways, with the loss of that site, I have lost a lot of material that was hosted on that site. So, taking the corrective measures I started creating another site. I started creating the site around 20th feb. My site was not indexed by 25-26th of feb. So, I was getting impatient so I tried to force index it at Google and Yahoo. I provided them with all the stuff like sitemap etc. I also actually got a couple of external links pointed to my site also.

I read up on the internet and realized that it may take months before the site got indexed. Despite being informed, I checked everyday if the site got indexed. It was indexed day before yesterday (3rd March)!!

Actually, I was pleasantly surprised by that it got indexed so soon. So nearly 8 days after force indexing the site got indexed. Yahoo has not still indexed (5th March)!!
Now, I have run into another problem of completing my site. Till now I was basking in the fact that nobody can find it so I can put in any crap that I want :)
